Federal Way police are holding a memorial Friday for an officer who died Sunday morning while on duty.
The ceremony for Brian Walsh, 34, will take place 1 p.m. at the Federal Way Christian Faith Center, 33645 20th Ave. S. There will be a full procession for law enforcement, emergency services and family. The public is invited to attend the service.
Walsh, a 4 1/2-year veteran of the department, suffered a heart attack Sunday morning, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was found collapsed in his patrol car after he responded to an officer-related shooting on the 33300 block of 26th Avenue Southwest.
Walsh was married with two children. His wife is expecting their third child in May.
A memorial fund has been established by the Federal Way Police Officer’s Guild. Donations can be made to Officer Walsh’s Memorial Fund at any Key Bank branch.
Memorial attendees are advised to take the following route: from northbound or southbound Interstate 5, exit at 348th Street and turn right on Enchanted Parkway (16th Avenue S). Turn right at the sign “Police Funeral.” Police vehicles will assist with entrance and parking at the facility.
UPDATE: The outside agency procession will intersect with Federal Way police escort from Bonney-Watson at 312th Street and Pacific Highway South before continuing one mile to the Christian Faith Center. The best public viewing site will be along Pacific Highway South.
