A 20-year-old woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Monday evening near Sunnyside Beach Park in Steilacoom, according to media reports.
Gus Melonas, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman, told KING-5 News that witnesses reported several young women near the double mainline tracks.
The woman was hit by a southbound Amtrak headed from Seattle to Eugene, Ore. She was not immediately identified.
Steilacoom police chief Robert Drozynski told the TV station that there is a pedestrian crossing in the area with a warning horn, flashers and a rail crossing sign.
The Amtrak train and a freight train were held up for several hours while the incident was under investigation.
The Amtraks come through Puyallup at 79 miles per hour. The police
are good about trying to keep the kids off the track. Now if there were some effort about confining the horns a bit. Imagine being 300ft
from the tracks and waking at 3AM enraged and defeated. The freights are actually louder.

It would be nice if the news would report what the woman was doing when she was killed. Park was placing coins on the track to have them smashed. I wish the news would state the facts and bring awareness to track safety. I see too many people playing, walking or placing items on the tracks. Railroad tracks are private property.
