A warrant has been issued for a 46-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled man inside a restroom at the Point Defiance Boathouse.

Investigators are looking for Jerry A. Johnson, who has been charged with rape in the second degree, according to Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum.

The incident occurred the afternoon of Feb. 20. The 24-year-old victim had been fishing on the pier when an older man approached him and enticed him into the restroom at the Point Defiance Boathouse. The assault occurred in the bathroom, police reported.

A composite sketch of the suspect was released to the media in the days after the attack and Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect through follow-up investigation. The detective talked to people who were on the pier the day of the attack. After more interviews, detectives were led to someone who ultimately identified the suspect, Fulghum said.
