UPDATE: The two men have been found and are OK.
UPDATE: KIRO TV is reporting that the two missing skiers have been located. There are reports the men called their girlfriends from campground pay phone.
Searchers were working to confirm the information.
Crews are searching for two Seattle men who are missing after reportedly going out-of-bounds Thursday at Crystal Mountain.
Searchers have been pinging the men’s cell phones and are tracking those pings, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said this morning.
“We don’t believe there has been an avalanche,” he said. “We just think they are lost at this point.”
The men are both 27 and live in Seattle. One was on skis; the other on a snowboard. Crews believe they may have gone into an out-of-bounds area and are in Yakima County, Troyer said.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, King County’s Guardian One helicopter and Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol are participating in the search effort.
The family of the missing men reported them overdue. Their car was found in the ski resort parking lot and tracks were discovered going into an out-of-bound, KIRO TV reported.
