The Kent Police Department is offering a weekly police academy class for civilians, starting late March.
The Wednesday classes on the daily operations of the police force will run from March 31 to May 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 24611 116th Ave. SE in Kent. An officer will be available for a question-and-answer session 30 minutes before the start of each class.
The 6-week series will cover topics such as officer recruitment and hiring, traffic enforcement, patrol functions, detectives and criminal investigations, SWAT, use-of-force policy, community education and the Neighborhood Response Team. K-9 officers will demonstrate their dogs’ abilities.
The academy is open to any adult 18 years of age and older. There is no cost for attending.
