Law enforcement officers arrested 11 suspected drunken drivers during an emphasis patrol last week in Bonney Lake and Sumner and along Highway 410.

In addition, officers arrested eight drivers on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor drug charges and eight drivers on other misdemeanor and felony charges, the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force reported today.

The enforcement action took place Friday. Officers stopped 276 drivers.

“Our focus Friday night was to remove impaired drivers from the road who could have killed someone if we had not arrested them,” Bonney Lake Police Chief Mike Mitchell said in a press release.  “Just as importantly, we removed quite a few other dangerous people from the community.”

Officers from the following agencies participated in the patrol Feb. 26: Bonney Lake, Sumner, Milton, Tacoma, Puyallup, Buckley, Sumner, Fife, and Lakewood Police Departments, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

THat sting lasted from Friday morning to Sunday night. It was not a DUI patrol, it was a “Lets make our Quota” party. 410 looked like Vegas all weekend with all the people pulled over. I got pulled over for crossing a solid 18 inch yellow line… when no one else was on the road (Turning out of a business),,, I didn’t even realize it was illegal. No ticket, because so many cops were running names through the system that the system went down.

Ignorance of the law does not absolve you of the law. So you’re saying you did not know that a solid yellow line means it’s illegal to make a turn or otherwise cross that line? I’ve never heard of traffic laws with descriptions that include include ‘unless no one else is on the highway’.

And there is no quota. Get a clue before making such an ignorant statement. I’m glad the police were out. After all the idiot speeders on the back roads in the area, people that don’t understand that because you are speeding through curves you are NOT allowed to cross the yellow line into MY lane, and drunk neighbors that crash their pickups on my front lawn, I hope the police do this EVERY weekend!

  3. You tell ‘em Latte_lea! If you arent breaking the law by driving drunk and speeding then what are you worried about? Do I like the intervention? No, but I understand that our society has fallen so far that occasional “wake up” messages like this are good. There is no respect for other people or the law for that matter. Lets drop the hammer once in a while and make a statement to the regular idiots that cause everyone else headaches. You get a DUI = car gets siezed and goes to PSA auction. Money gets donated to the families of those killed by DUI drivers. No diverted punishment, no second, third, fourth time. Currently you can get 7 and still be on the road legal if you have the right attorney.

27 out of 276,,,um 10%…4% dwi..will that be enough money to pay for the cost of the “intervention”….cops can stop anyone anytime for any reason..it’s all subjective on their part!
