Tacoma police were investigating a shooting last night after a homeowner chased after a suspected car prowler in the South End.

No injuries were reported.

According to Tacoma police, a homeowner who lives in the 8400 block of South Park Avenue heard his car alarm go off just after 9:30 p.m. He spotted a suspect get out of his driver’s side door and run down the street, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The prowler got into the passenger side of a smaller vehicle. That car fled, police reported.

The homeowner got into his car and chased the suspect’s vehicle.

In the 9000 block of South Yakima Avenue, the car prowler got out of the suspect’s vehicle and fired six to seven shots in the homeowner’s direction.

The passenger got back into the vehicle, which drove off in an unknown direction.  The car prowler was described as black, in his mid 20s, about 5 feet 8 and wearing a black hooded jacket and jeans.

The investigation is ongoing.
