Local clergy will gather this evening at Birney Elementary School for a brief, spiritual ceremony to cleanse the place where Jennifer Paulson was killed last week.

The Moment of Blessing ceremony for the 30-year-old special education teacher begins at 5 p.m. at the school, 1202 S. 76th St.

Paulson was fatally shot outside the school just after 7:30 a.m. Friday. The gunman was killed about 20 minutes later after a confrontation with a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy.

The Associated Ministries holds Moments of Blessing to “reclaim” places where people are killed in Pierce County. The ceremonies also are intended to provide support to the victim’s family and friends and the neighborhood where the crime occurred.

The ceremony is open to the public.
