A 32-year-old Western State Hospital patient killed himself in the Pierce County Jail this afternoon while being held there on attempted murder charges, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The man, whose identity was not released, hung himself with a towel, Troyer said.
Corrections officers called paramedics when they found the hanged man at about 1:20 p.m., but he could not be revived.

He was being held on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder after he choked a psychiatrist at the state mental hospital, Troyer said.

The man was booked into the jail on Wednesday, Troyer said.

  1. Gee, that really is too bad !

    Gosh, Golly Gee !

  2. No What’s too bad is that people like f722380 are allowed to editorialize their opinions with a complete lack of compassion, understanding and humanity. Get off your couch and thank your lucky stars that mental illness hasn’t been one of your symptoms. Or has it???

A psyciatrist was choked to death at Western State and the first I hear of it is when the accused killer kills himself? How did I miss the initial story? How was the psychiatrist put in such a vulnerable position? Isn’t it pretty obvious if the killer was in Western already then he was insane? Isn’t jail problematic for the insane? Wasn’t a multimillion dollar lawsuit just settled on this? Is anyone paying attention???????

Frankiethomas- it says ATTEMPTED murder, which leads me to believe that someone intervened and saved the psychiatrist. So the person was attacked, but survived.

I was at the jail when this incident occured, visiting someone. The prisoners were put into lockdown and our visiting hours were cut short. There was an alarm going off for about 25 – 35 minutes while the whole ordeal was going on which was quite annoying. All I can say is one less crazy in the world!
