The Tacoma Police Department will host a grand opening celebration and open house today at its new Sector 4 substation.

The station, which is modeled after the city’s four other police substation, is located at 400 E. 56th St. Sector 4 encompasses the East Side and part of the South End.

There will be a ceremony at noon. A lunch representing the different cultures and traditions on the East Side will be served. The open house ends at 4 p.m.

The new substation is dedicated to the memory of slain Tacoma police officer Larry Walker, who was killed in the line of duty in 1986.
