A run to benefit the family of a slain Pierce County sheriff’s deputy is scheduled for Saturday.

The proceeds from the Run from the Heart event will go to deputy Kent Mundell’s family. Mundell, 44, was fatally shot when he responded to a domestic violence call Dec. 21 at a home near Eatonville. Sgt. Nick Hausner also was wounded in the gunfire.

Saturday’s event will take place at 2 p.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park. Registration will begin at noon.

Participants must pay $20. They can chose a 5K run or 3K walk and receive a T-shirt as part of the event.
