UPDATED: Man with gun robs North End store, Tacoma police report

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed a North End store at gunpoint Thursday night.

The man walked into the Big Value store at 2501 N. Alder St. about 9:45 p.m. He was dressed in dark clothing and wore a black knit cap on his head and scarf over his face, police reported.

The man was armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk complied with the demand, police reported.

The robber left the store and fled in an unknown direction.

Officers searched the area but did not immediately find the robber.

Man pleads not guilty in Fife hit-and-run that killed infant

A man accused in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night that killed a 3-month-old boy pleaded not guilty to three charges during his arraignment this afternoon.

Prosecutors have charged Matthew Hamilton, 26, with vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of an accident that results in death and driving with a suspended license. He is being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Hamilton’s arraignment was attended by more than a dozen of Jayden Wayman’s family members. Jayden was strapped into his car seat in the back of his father’s car the Sunday night.

Man pleads guilty in fatal 2007 Lakewood pub shooting

A 27-year-old man faces between 11 years, six months and 13 years, six months in prison after pleading guilty this week to the shooting death of another man at a Lakewood pub more than two years ago.

Patrick A. Dixon, 27, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter Wednesday in Pierce County Superior Court.

Dixon shot Tyrone Mahone, 28, in the head following a dispute at the Oh! Gallaghers Sports Pub in October 2007. Dixon claimed he acted in self-defense, but prosecutors charged him with murder.

Teekah’s mother talks about latest tip in daughter’s disappearance

Theresa Lewis wants to know why.

The mother, who’s been searching for her missing daughter for 11 years, wants to know what prompted a man to walk up to her Saturday and tell her where Teekah Lewis might be.

The man approached Lewis minutes before the annual candlelight vigil for Teekah, who was 2 1/2 years old when she vanished from a Tacoma bowling alley the night of Jan. 23, 1999.

“I’ve never seen this man in my whole entire life,” Lewis said today. “He says he has visions.”

Vigil tonight for baby boy killed after Fife hit-and-run crash

The City of Fife has announced that there will be a candlelight vigil tonight for the 3-month-old boy who died this week after his father’s car was hit by vehicle that ran a red light.

The vigil begins at 8 p.m. at Central Park at Radiance Boulevard and Tribute Avenue, the city posted on Twitter.

Jayden Wayman died Tuesday at Mary Bridge Hospital of injuries he suffered in the Sunday night crash.

UPDATED: Lakewood officer, suspect injured after early morning pursuit

A Lakewood officer and a suspect were injured early today after a pursuit ended with the officer crashing and the suspect being physically taken into custody on a South End Tacoma street.

The officer was treated and released from a local hospital, Lakewood police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said.

“He’s home,” she said shortly before 8 a.m.

The suspect remains hospital for his injuries. His injuries were not immediately known this morning. Once he’s released, he’ll be booked into Pierce County Jail in connection with the early-morning chase.

UPDATED: Police get new tip in case of missing 2-year-old

Tacoma police are pursuing a new tip in the case of Teekah Lewis, the 2-year-old girl who went missing 11 years ago but so far, have not found any evidence of her whereabouts.

A man approached Teekah’s mother, Theresa Lewis, Saturday night at the annual vigil for the girl and provided information about her whereabouts.  Teekah was 2 1/2 years old when she vanished from the former New Frontier Lanes bowling alley in Tacoma on Jan. 23, 1999. Investigators believe a stranger snatched Teekah while her family bowled nearby but they have never been able to provide a suspect
