The body of a missing 22-year-old Port Orchard woman has been found in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
“We just found out that Molly’s body has been found,” Jordan Hightower posted on Twitter shortly after 5 a.m. “We take peace in knowing she is with our Lord although our hearts are breaking.”
Molly Hightower’s family had been holding out hope the 22-year-old would be found alive. Thursday, they learned rescuers were looking for her in the rubble of the building where she worked and lived in Haiti.
Molly Hightower, a 2005 graduate of Tacoma’s Bellarmine Prepartory School, had been volunteering as a physical therapist to disabled children with Friends of the Orphans. She and the other volunteers lived in the seven-story building where they worked.
Friends reported she went to the fifth floor of the building to take a bath. She had not been seen since the magnitude-7 earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday and collapsed the building.
“We love you Molly more then you will ever know or understand. We know you are watching us and smiling your brilliant smile,” Jordan Hightower, Molly’s 24-year-old sister, posted on Twitter shortly after announcing that Molly’s body had been found.
UPDATE: There will be a vigil tonight for Molly Hightower and the people of Haiti.
The vigil starts at 7 p.m. at St. Louise Catholic Church, 141 – 156th Ave. N.E., in Bellevue.
News Tribune columnist Kathleen Merryman, who has been reporting about the search for Molly, will write more about her life in Saturday’s News Tribune.
That is so sad… what a terrible tragedy.
Rest with the angels, Molly. The work you did in Haiti was a gift to those you taught. May your family feel your love and may they know that you prepare a place for them.
The best words to describe Molly Hightower.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
All of my donations will be in honor and remembrance of Molly Hightower. I hope her family and friends find peace and that those she was helping find safety and security soon.
My heart goes out to Molly and her family, may she rest in peace and may her family find peace.
Rest in Peace Molly. My condolences to your family.
The death of this young lady and all that were doing the good work in Haiti touches everyone of us. Molly, rest with the Lord. Your family is in our prayers.
Thank you Molly.
Molly was someone who truly made a difference in the lives of others. Like so many others I was hoping and praying that she somehow survived the quake. My heart goes out to the Hightower family and the Bellarmine community. May she rest in peace!
