An Anderson Island woman is in jail after allegedly stabbing her 18-month-old daughter Tuesday morning.

The child was in serious condition Tuesday night at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center Tuesday, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The woman is being held at Pierce County Jail on charges of attempted murder. The woman’s boyfriend, the father of the baby, allegedly came home and found the mother in the process of harming herself and the child. At 10:30 a.m., police received multiple calls from neighbors and family members, according to Troyer.

Both child and mother were moved to Steilacoom. Mike Esher, who heads Pierce County airport and ferry division, said the Anderson Island ferry captain was asked to bring extra deputies to the island immediately at about 10:50 a.m.

The child was transported on the Anderson Island fireboat, and the mother was taken on the Anderson Island ferry, arriving at 11:26 a.m. The mother received hospital treatment for “superficial” injuries, Troyer said, and was booked into jail around 3:30 p.m.

Was there somthing preventing an airlift for a stabbed baby? The ferry seems a bit, well, slow.

probably a non life injury. You’d be suprised how well these medics are trained.

Yeah, the Anderson Island Medics (or volunteer firefighters) helped me get off the island via fireboat about 8 years ago when I broke my leg on a moped in the middle of the island. That was a true adventure!

  4. The absolutely fabulous Anderson Island Fire and Rescue access the patients and relay the information to the doctors who then determine if and how the patient is transported. It is the doctors decision! I want everyone out there to know that we on Anderson Island are blessed with a wonderful community and fire department. They have amazing response times and really know you and care. Yo are never ever a faceless victim out here. We are a true community, that loves and supports one another.
