The woman who was found dead inside her burned South Tacoma home Sunday had been shot, the Tacoma Police Department announced.
She died of gunshot wounds and her death is now considered a homicide, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
An autopsy on the woman is under way at the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The woman’s name has not yet been released.
Her husband was critically injured when fire engulfed their home in the 7200 block of South Lawrence Street early Sunday. The husband was being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Detectives have not been able to interview him about what happened.
Detectives have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in the woman’s death.
“It’s an ongoing investigation,” Fulghum said.
The woman’s death is the first homicide of 2010 in the City of Tacoma.
