A Sumner woman has been critically injured after a single-car crash near Buckley Saturday night.

Around 9 p.m., the 30-year-old woman’s 2001 Mazda was northbound on State Route 165 approaching 133^rd Street Court East when the car drifted off the roadway and crashed into a tree. East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews extricated the driver, the only person in the car, and transported her to the trauma center at Madigan Army Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

There will be a benefit concert Sunday afternoon at The Swiss in memory of slain Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Kent Mundell.

The concert, which begins at 3 p.m., is sold out. Tickets went quickly.

The event is a fundraiser for the family of Mundell and Richelle Heacock, who’s father works for the Sheriff’s Department. Richelle was seriously injured in a car crash the night before Mundell’s memorial service.

UPDATE: Have heard over the police scanner that the child has been recovered in Pasco and the suspect is in custody. The Amber Alert has been cancelled.

Local clergy will hold a Moment of Blessing next month at the scene where 3-month-old Jayden Thomas Wayman suffered fatal injuries in a car wreck Sunday.

The ceremony for Jayden will take place at 10 a.m. Feb. 11 at the intersection of 20th Street East and 70th Avenue East in Fife, Associated Ministries announced today.

He died Tuesday from injuries suffered when the car he was riding in was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the second car has been charged with vehicular homicide and other crimes.

We’ve gotten a few calls about police activity at the corner of South Eighth and Proctor streets.

Tacoma police were serving an arrest and search warrant at a home on the corner. One man was arrested in connection with a financial crimes case. City code inspectors are boarding up the house because of health and safety violations, police report.

Animal control also had shown up in the neighborhood.

The King County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public about the unsolved slaying of a Lynnwood woman.

Nicole Pietz was last seen Jan. 27, 2006, at her home by her husband. Her body was found Fed. 6, 2006, in a wooded area in Burien. Investigators found her car, a 2003 Jetta, in the University District about two weeks later.

Four years later, the case remains unsolved.

A reward of $36,000 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest or conviction in Pietz’s death.

A crash is blocking the left lane of southbound Interstate 5 just south of Bridgeport Way in Lakewood, the state DOT reports.

The incident began at 9 a.m.

Troopers and firefighters are on the scene. A tow truck in en route.

UPDATE: The crash has now been cleared.
