A man was injured and his friend arrested Wednesday night after a shooting in South Tacoma.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, Tacoma police reported. He was being treated at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Tacoma police responded to a home in the 2900 block of South Proctor Street on Wednesday night after receiving a call that someone was shot in the abdomen, police reported.

Officers found the victim, who was uncooperative. Paramedics treated the man at the scene and transported him to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was immediately taken into surgery, police reported.

Investigating officers located a shell casing and bullet hole in a couch in the living room of the home. They found a man outside the home. He appeared to be sweaty and was covered in sticker bushes, police said.

The man eventually told officers he’d accidentally shot his friend in the stomach and showed officers where he’d hid the gun, police reported.

Officers arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree assault and booked him into Pierce County Jail.
