Washington State Patrol troopers and commercial vehicle enforcement officers are manning the state’s truck scales and working the known truck by-pass routes today.
The “Open Scale” emphasis is aimed at ensuring that loads are secure on semi-trucks and to prevent crashes that are caused by shifting or falling loads, according to a State Patrol press release.
“All areas of weight and traffic enforcement as well as vehicle inspections will be included in the emphasis,” the press release states.
Three previous “Open Scale” emphasis missions have been held so far this year. During those, troopers and officers conducted 1,642 inspections and placed 168 vehicles and 42 drivers out of service. Officers noted 120 load securement violations.
