Canadian law officers make impressive showing

In a day in which there will be many impressive displays from police units, law enforcement officers from British Columbia might top it all.

From Peter Callaghan, outside the Dome

After the caskets had entered the Dome, the word was given that the police still outside could file into the building. At that point, nearly a thousand Royal Canadian Mounted Police and perhaps a thousand more from other B.C. agencies began a march from the Tacoma Dome parking lot, across 26th Street and up the ramp to the mezzanine level.

The mounties in full dress red uniform led the way, marching four abreast. ‘Left, right. Left, right. Left, right. Left,” commanded an officer.

At one point, the line of mounties reached the top of the ramp inside the Dome, and were still coming out of the parking lot. Then came thousands from Vancouver came next, followed by delegations from Abbotsford, Delta, Victoria, Saanich, New Westminster, and the South Coast B.C. Transit Police.

The sea of red that the RCMP created was so beautiful. Thanks to our law enforcement family from the north for that display of support. I for one will not soon forget it. TNT – how about a picture? Thanks~

I was hoping for a picture also. I’m sure we’ll see a slideshow later. Thanks for the micro-coverage on behalf of those stuck at work today!
