Three detectives on their way to make another arrest in the Maurice Clemmons case were involved in a crash this evening on River Road.

A Pierce County Sheriff’s Department detective was driving with two Tacoma police detectives on their way to make an arrest when a young driver in front of them tried to make a U-turn and crashed into the car, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The crash happened on the 7400 block of River Road between Tacoma and Puyallup. Traffic was delayed on River Road after the crash.

One detective was taken to Allenmore Hospital with an injured shoulder and arm. The two other detectives were bruised and shaken up. None of the injuries are serious, Troyer said.

No arrests were made at the crash.

The detectives had put extensive work on the case will make the arrest tomorrow, Troyer said.

“Someone got an extra night of freedom,” Troyer said.

  1. my thoughts and prayers go out to the injured detectives and of course to the young driver who crashed into them.please people, when you see and hear police sirens on the road, you need to stop and let theses police get thru traffic. this is what i see everyday, ambulances with their sirens on carrying an injured person enroute to a nearby hospital and i see an ignorant driver totally ignoring the sirens and chooses to keep moving, endangering himself as well as the ambulance drivers life and everybody else on the road!

  2. I hope these detectives get better soon. I hope not to see you out on the street anytime soon because you’re in plain clothes. If I smile at you and you smile back I’ll say ‘Hi!’. Then I’ll pass you and go about my business until some other smiler comes along.

I’m just wondering instead of speeding with flashing lights to arrest this person, couldn’t they have took the extra 1/2 hour to drive normally and thus instead of giving this criminal one more free day which he doesn’t deserve, would have had him in custody last night? Why does everything need to be a frenzy, i guess i just see like a bee’s nest, the killer stirred it.
