Pierce County Superior Court Judge Lisa Worswick issued a bench warrant today for the arrest of a 47-year-old man charged with causing a car crash that left his passenger dead earlier this year.

Worswick signed the warrant when Johnny Lee Hadley failed to show up in court to be arraigned on a charge of vehicular homicide.

Prosecutors contend Hadley was at the wheel of a 1991 Acura that went out of control on Highway 167 near its intersection with Highway 512 on June 10. The Acura slammed into a tree, killing passenger Mike McGowan.

An investigation revealed Hadley’s car was traveling at a speed between 79 and 88 mph when it left the road.

Hadley was not arrested the day of the crash. Deputy prosecutor Tim Jones charged him with McGowan’s death earlier this month and summoned him to court today to answer the charge.
