Tacoma police were investigating a robbery at a downtown bank branch this afternoon.

The First Citizens Bank, 801 Pacific Ave., occurred at 2:50 p.m. According to initial reports, a man went into the bank and demanded cash, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

He fled and was seen getting into a waiting vehicle. The vehicle, described as a Volvo, took off. The robber was described as a light skinned man in his mid-20s and about 5 feet 4. He wore a dark hat, beige jacket and blue jeans, Fulghum said.

UPDATE: The suspected getaway vehicle has been stopped at South 23rd and Jefferson Avenue, Fulghum said. Officers in the area spotted the car, which matched the description of the getaway car.

The car was stopped at 3:05 p.m.

A suspect in the bank robbery was detained as were two others in the car at 3:08 p.m.
