This just in from Kent police:
On 11/09/09 at 1434 hours, Kent Police were dispatched to a shooting incident at Kent Body and Paint located at 831 5th Av. S.
Officers located a male subject with a gunshot injury. The subject’s injuries are life-threatening.
A block away Kent Police located another male subject also with a serious gunshot injury.
Preliminary investigation reveals there was a dispute between two employees of the business. One employee was shot in the arm and abdomen with serious injuries. It appears the other employee then shot himself in the head with life-threatening injuries.
No other employees were injured or involved.
There are no suspects outstanding. Investigation continues by Kent Police detectives.
UPDATE: KIRO-TV is reporting that one of the men shot is the adult son of Washington Lt. Gov. Brad Owen.
UPDATE 2: Kent PD just released the following:
We can confirm that the victim in the shooting incident which occurred today here at a business in Kent is 37 year old Mark Owen, son of Lt. Gov. Brad Owen. Owen is listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center. The 63 year old suspect, a manager at the business, is also at Harborview after turning the firearm on himself. He is alive but with life threatening injuries.
Lt. Gov. Owen has been fully cooperative with the investigation and is at Harborview with his son. According to Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan, “Although there is never any reason or logic for violence in the work place, we are diligently investigating the circumstances that led up to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Gov. Owen and his family at this very difficult time”.
