You are far more likely to be a victim of theft or other crime, than a house fire EVER. Instead of sweating the smoke detector batteries (you know they chirp when the battery actually needs replacing, duh) make a record of all your valuables and their serial numbers. Yes kids, your 9 volt batteries are more likely to be stolen than ever be used to alert you to an actual fire. The stats prove it.
