A 46-year-old man was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Valley Avenue East near Sumner, the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office reported today.
The office identified him as Kevin Moore.
The crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 12900 block of Valley Avenue East.
Moore was driving a Chevy Suburban when it lost control in the 12700 block, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. The vehicle left the road, went through overgrown brush, down an embankment and struck a tree.
Moore was ejected and killed. His Suburban continued and went into a nearby pond. The Sheriff's Department's dive team responded to see if there were any other passengers in the vehicle, Troyer said. They found no one.
Investigators suspect speed was a factor in the crash, Troyer said.
