A 40-year-old man didn’t like the answer he got when a Kapowsin bartender refused to serve him more alcohol.

As he walked out of the Kapowsin Tavern on Saturday, he allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it at the bartender. A witness threw a pool ball, hitting the man right in the back of the head, court documents state.

Besides the cut on the back of the head, the man now faces second-degree assault charges. Kevin J. Valentine was charged Tuesday.

Court documents provide the following information …

An employee at Kapowsin Tavern told Pierce County sheriff’s deputies she refused to serve Valentine more alcohol because he was already drunk. Valentine got upset.

“He threw a glass into a cooler located behing the bar and fell off his stool,” charging documents state.

Valentine started to walk out. He stopped at the door, pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the employee.

A witness told deputies he saw Valentine pull the gun and then clocked him with a pool ball.

When deputies arrived, Valentine was lying on the ground in front of the bar, bleeding from a cut on the back of his head.

“Defendant claimed he had been shot in the head,” charging documents state. “He was slurring his words, reeked of alcohol and had very red watery eyes. He was obviously intoxicated.”

The deputies found a loaded gun on Valentine.

Getting hit in the head with a pool ball like that probably felt like he was shot in the head. Moron.

The customer who helped is lucky though. If he’d of missed he may of been shot. I’m glad it all worked out though and this idiot is behind bars.

    This same guy must have called my house before this happened. Someone called my house Sat night and left a message, he said in a slurred voice;
“Im not as think as you drunk I am,so answer your phone.” I laughed so hard Sunday morning.

Excellent shot! I find it funny that he is taken out with a pool ball and he so flipping drunk he thinks it was a bullet! lol priceless. I’m glad it didn’t turn out worse. lol “defendant claimed he’d been shot in the head” lol Laying on the ground in a heaping pile of stupidity, lol.

  5. So the serving cut off point is when a patron is so drunk they fall off their stool, walk or stumble out the door and DRIVE. I thought there were laws in place to help prevent that…
However, we ARE keeping WA state in business, from the liquor control board for alcohol sales, bar business licenses, DUI’s from sheriffs and state patrol, courts, and death taxes, so maybe those laws about serving are overlooked. It all benefits the state.

This dude is VERY lucky he wasn’t in Bonney Lake. Someone might have tried to get a piggy back ride out of him while he was laying there “shot in the head”! VERY lucky!

Personally, I think the Mariners should track down the guy who threw the 8-ball and offer him a contract…

Love it! This guy better not try to file assault charges on the ball thrower. He so deserved to get “shot”
