Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 29-year-old man with robbing a sandwich shop Friday in Tacoma.
Charges were filed Tuesday against Jackson M. Englander on Tuesday. Prosecutors charged him with second-degree robbery and second-degree burglary.
Court documents provide the following information:
Tacoma police officers were called to the Subway at 2901 S. 38th St. They talked to a woman who said a man came into the restaurant, used the restroom and then asked for the store manager. The man, who was shaking and appeared nervous, said the manager owed him money.
The man tried to go back into the sandwich shop but the woman tried to prevent it. The man then claimed to have a gun. He went into the business, came out with a bag and realized there was no money inside. He demanded cash from the register.
The woman gave him some money and the man left, saying he’d pay back the store manager the next day.
Officers were given a description of the robber. A police dog found articles of clothing near the Subway. The dog then found Englander on the ground, hiding behind a chain link fence next to the building.
The woman positively identified Englander as the robber. Officers found a wad of cash in his pocket.
