A 21-year-old man from Lake Tapps was killed Saturday night when the truck he was riding in crashed along the Sumner-Buckley Highway East just outside of Buckley.

Derrick A. Laiblin died at the scene of the crash. Three others were also injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Deputies have arrested the 18-year-old driver on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. The Enumclaw resident was hospitalized from injuries related to the one-vehicle crash, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

According to reports, four young people were riding in a Ford pickup truck about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The truck was speeding eastbound on the Sumner-Buckley Highway.

“The pickup truck was going at a high rate of speed, passing other cars on the road,” Troyer said.

In the 28800 block, the truck went into oncoming lanes.  It lost control and left the roadway. The passengers were ejected, Troyer said.

A 17-year-old girl and 20-year-old man were seriously injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Troyer said speed and bad driving appeared to be factors. Investigators found some alcohol containers at the scene but have not yet determined whether alcohol was a factor.

On his Myspace page, Laiblin talked about riding BMX bikes and hanging out with his friends.  Loved ones placed a cross with his name on it at the scene of the crash, according to messages on the page.
