City of Tacoma residents can get a free security assessment as part of a new effort by city government.

The residential security survey assessments are part of the city-wide Safe and Clean efforts. The effort, launched last year, aims to reduce crime and clean up the neighborhoods throughout Tacoma.

As part of the initiative, a Defensible Space Team was created. Team members will be available to evaluate residents’ homes for security, a city announcement stated. They can recommend additional security measures and changes to the physical environment to help enhance security and reduce the attractiveness to burglars.

The security assessment is free to Tacoma homeowners.  To schedule an assessment, call Audrey Hornbuckle at 253-591-5048.

Do we have to have someone come to our home? Or perhaps, is there a list that can be provided that we can look at and check around our home to see if we are doing the proper things? Is there a website maybe we can go to? I am in an area that has seen a whole bunch of breakins recently. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

MOMOFTOO: I can send you a brochure that provides home security tips, or you can give me a call at (253) 591-5048, and we can talk over the phone and I can give you ideas to better secure your home. I also have a checklist our team members use when we conduct the security assessment at a person’s home. We leave a copy of the checklist with the homeowner for their reference. I can send you a blank form if you’d like, but some of the information on it may be obscure without us there at the home to provide security examples. I’m happy to assist in whatever way possible.
