A fire this evening in a second floor apartment on the Tacoma Hilltop left one person injured, the Tacoma Fire Department reports.

The condition of the person wasn’t known but the person was talking to firefighters before being taken to a hospital.

Assistant Chief Dan Crotty with the Tacoma Fire Department said the fire  was spotted about 8:30 p.m. in a multi-story brick apartment building at 518 S. 7th St.

When firefighters arrived they spotted smoke coming from a second floor apartment window, he said. Firefighters brought a hose through the front door of the partment building to the second floor.  The fire was under control within a few minutes.

The cause of the fire as well as a damage estimate weren’t immediately available, Crotty said. A fire inspector was called to the scene.

Five engine crews, two ladder crews and two Medic units responded to the fire call, Crotty said. It wasn’t immediately know if anyone was evacuated from the building or other units were damaged.
