The Fourth Annual Hilltop Challenge is Friday night at University of Puget Sound Fieldhouse in Tacoma.

The event pits Tacoma police officers against Tacoma firefighters in a friendly game of basketball to raise money for the Hilltop Action Coalition.

The game starts at 7 p.m. At halftime, kids participate in a boot race during which the participants dress in various police and fire equipment as part of a relay race.

Tickets are $10 per adult and $7 for children 6 to 10 years old and seniors 55 and older. Children under age 5 are free. Tickets can be bought at Associated Ministries, 1224 S. I St., the Central Substation, 1524 S Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and at the game.

If you can’t make it but still want to help you can buy tickets and donate them so children and low-income families can attend. Already, HAC has received donations to give 20 tickets each to Al Davies Boys and Girls Club, Gonyea Boys and Girls Club, People’s Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Here’s a little more from HAC about the importance of this event for them.

We REALLY appreciate the support of these officers/firefighters, we have partnered with them for 19 years, and they in turn have risen to the occasion when our ongoing community work is concerned. All Federal Funding that we have gotten over the years has dried up, we still get City money (thank you, City of Tacoma), and foundation funding is stretched even thinner because of the same federal funding issue. Community support is our primary other source for support.
