Pierce County Sheriff deputy aces agressive bear

A Pierce County sheriff’s sergeant shot and killed a bear Monday near Key Center, our news partner KIRO-TV reported.


You can read their story here.


The black bear was trying to break down the door of a home. The homeowner shot and wounded it.


Then Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies and wildlife agents tracked and then shot animal. Wildlife agents said the bear was unusually aggressive to be breaking into home during the day time.

Wild Kitsap crash (Updated)

A Honda Civic traveling at perhaps 100 mph failed to negotiate a curve, became airborne, hit a pickup truck and then crashed into a garage Saturday, the Kitsap Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.


The crash happened on Southeast Harper Hill Road, where the speed limit is 10 mph.


The vehicles were totaled, but neither the driver or his passenger were seriously injured. Deputies were searching for the driver, who fled. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor.

Strongarm robbery at Kitsap bank leaves woman injured

Here’s the press release from the Kitsap Sheriff:


Silverdale, Wash. — A 25 year-old Central Kitsap woman sustained significant injuries during a strong armed robbery at a Silverdale bank early Saturday morning.


The victim, a manager of a local fast food restaurant, was making a night drop deposit at a bank in the 10500 block of Silverdale Way NW when she was attacked by a male wearing a black knit face mask, a black-colored sweater jacket, blue jeans and whitecolored athletic shoes.

Woman pleads guilty to killing ex-boyfriend outside Buckley restaurant

Paula Jennifer Marshall pleaded guilty today to first-degree murder in the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Smith.


Smith was repeatedly shot then pistol whipped as he lay bleeding in the parking lot of the White Horse Restaurant in February 2007.


Smith, 32, died at the scene.


Marshall, 30, faces between 24 years, nine months and 31 years, 11 months in prison when she’s sentenced Sept. 5, deputy prosecutor Ed Murphy said.


Smith and Marshall had dated for several years and had a son together, according to court documents.

Man crashes motorcycle on Highway 410, injures self

A 33-year-old Sumner man was injured late Sunday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed at Highway 410 and State Route 167, the Washington State Patrol reported.


The man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.


The crash occurred about 10:20 p.m. The man was going south on State Route 167 at Highway 410. He was allegedly passing vehicles when he lost control and crashed in the median, troopers reported.


He had a motorcycle endorsement and was wearing a helmet.


Alcohol was suspected, troopers reported.

UPDATED: Lakewood shooting victim dies of his injuries

UPDATE: The suspected shooter also was arrested. He was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter.


“He didn’t intentionally kill him,” Lakewood police Lt. Steve Mauer said. “Obviously there was extreme negligence and recklessness in not clearing and not opening (the gun.)


A man who was shot in the head by friend Sunday night in a Lakewood apartment has died of his injuries, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported this morning.


The man died at Madigan Army Medical Center. His name and age have not been released.

Shooting in Lakewood thought to be accidental (Updated)

Just developing:


Lakewood Police confirmed that there has been a shooting. The investigation is just getting launched and details are sparse, but at the moment, Lt. Steve Mauer is saying it appears to be accidental.


The victim’s condition wasn’t available but it appears the victim may have been shot in the head. Mauer was not yet able to provide a location.


I’ll post more information as we get it.

Five ejected in early morning DUI crash

This is the press release the State Patrol sent out:


At approximately 0345 in the early morning hours of Sunday June 29, 2008 the Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle rollover collision that had occurred southbound Interstate 405 just south of state route 900 blocking all lanes.
