A person was killed just before 11:30 a.m. at the Goodwill Operations Center in Tacoma’s Nalley Valley, Tacoma police said.
Update: Talked to the Tacoma Fire Department, who said they found a man inside a trash compactor on the loading dock of the business. He was transported to a hospital trauma center.
Goodwill spokesman Matthew Erlich said the machine was not a compactor, but one that lifted large cardboard boxes.
Elaine Fischer, a spokeswoman with the Department of Labor and Industries, said they had opened an investigation.
Update: The dead man’s name is Nicholas Miller, his grandmother said. He was in his mid 20s and had worked at the Goodwill for several years.
Goodwill said Miller was 27.
