"In 2007, there were over 25,000 fires resulting in 51 deaths and more than $228 million in property loss reported by the Washington State Fire Service," says State Fire Marshal Matlick. "Fires have a devastating affect on our communities. The National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) is a tool the fire service uses to capture information about emergencies incidents in a uniform manner. This reporting system enables local, state, and federal fire agencies to share information and work together to prevent fires.
