Tacoma police have arrested a 54-year-old woman suspected of hitting a man, who later died of his injuries.

The deadly accident occurred in the parking lot of 1601 S. Union Ave. just after 9:15 p.m. Sunday, March 9, Tacoma police spokeswoman Gretchen Aguirre said.

The suspect was moving another person’s car. It sounds like she mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, was hit. He was initially stabilized at the scene, Aguirre said.

Both the suspect and victim were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries, which were described as serious.

The victim died of his injuries last week, Aguirre said.

The suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail on Monday afternoon on suspicion of vehicle homicide. She also had warrants for failing to appear in other drunken driving cases.

Alcohol was suspected in this incident.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Pierce County Superior Court.
