On Wednesday, Lakewood Police arrested a man for reportedly threatening to blow up Woodbrook Middle School.
But Manuel Benavibes told police it was all just a misunderstanding, according to court records.
Benavibes came to the school Tuesday afternoon to pick up a nephew, an affidavit filed by prosecutors says. A staff member asked him to lower the hood on his sweatshirt. Benavibes later reportedly told police he was wearing earphones and thought he had been called a racial epithet. Kids later said he threatened to put bombs in the hallways.
Benavibes was charged Thursday with one count of threatening to bomb or injure property.
