The Pierce County Prosecutor will be speaking with the media Wednesday regarding the Daniel Tavares Jr. double murder case.

Tavares (left) has been charged with two counts of aggravated first-degree murder. He’s suspected of fatally shooting his neighbors – Brian, 30, and Beverly Mauck, 28, in their Graham-area home in Nov. 17. The shooting allegedly was over a $50 debt.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the County-City Building.

Horne will be meeting beforehand with family members of Brian and Beverly.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department announced the press conference Tuesday. An e-mail from the department stated, “No details on what information will be presented, but media is encouraged to attend.”

While there’s no official word on the topic of the press conference, note it’s timing.

Horne has until Friday to decide whether to seek the death penalty against Tavares.

Judge Vicki Hogan set that as the deadline during a hearing in December.
