Deputies’ response to Carnation 911 call to be investigated

There has been much reported on the 911 hang up call Monday night from the home where six members of a family were later found slain.


Two deputies responded to the house but turned back after found a locked gate.


King County Sheriff Sue Rahr gave a little bit more detail today about who made that 911, when and what she plans to do about the response.

Prosecutor files aggravated murder charges in Carnation massacre

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg just announced that he is filing six counts of aggravated first-murder charges each against a woman and her boyfriend in the mass slayings Christmas Eve on a property in Carnation.


Satterberg is speaking at a press conference right now.


He said Michelle Anderson was angry with her brother over money and her parents over a lack of support.


Satterberg laid out the horrific details of what happened in the Andersons’ house.

Report: Missed opportunity to keep Tavares locked up longer

The Boston Herald has a story this morning about how the Romney administration missed an opportunity to keep Daniel T. Tavares Jr. behind bars.


The Department of Corrections could have stripped him of his “good time,” which would have kept him in prison for nearly another year.


He got out in July. Tavares has been accused of killing Graham couple, Brian and Beverly Mauck, in their home on Nov. 17.

Burglar breaks into East Side church but leaves loot

We got a tip over the weekend about a break-in recently at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 3422 Portland Ave.


Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum provided the following information.


The burglary was reported at 7:40 a.m. Dec. 19. It appears to have taken place between 9:10 p.m. Dec. 18 and the time it was reported.



It appears the burglar used a cinder block to break out a front door panel to get inside. It appears the suspect(s) found an unused oil lamp and lit it.

Make your reports to Thurston County SO online

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new tool that will allow residents to file a police report from the comfort of their own computer keyboards.


Here’s some verbiage from a news release on the Citizens Online Police Report System:


Many times citizens do not wish to have a deputy personally respond in order to file a police report. Using this technology, a person will be able to submit a report immediately and print a copy of the report for their records. Each report will be reviewed to determine if further investigation is needed.

Afternoon update on the Carnation homicides

Some new details this afternoon about the investigation of six deaths at on Carnation property on Christmas Eve.


Here’s the press release from King County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart:


Additional information on the Carnation-area homicides was made public this afternoon at the first court appearance of the two suspects, Joe McEnroe and Michelle Anderson.


Two guns were used in the homicides, a .357 and a 9mm.


Both suspects shot various victims. In some cases they each shot a victim.

More on deadly I-5 shooting

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to officially identify the man killed by a Washington State Patrol trooper on Interstate 5 on Christmas Day.


However, the Seattle Times talked to the man’s father and named the man. Here’s a link to their story here.


The Olympian’s story today talked about how the shooting was captured on the DOT cameras.


Some have questioned why it took troopers so long to respond. State Patrol spokeswoman Kristene O’Shannon told me yesterday that all the troopers working in King County on Christmas Day were in the northern

Morning update on homicide investigation in Carnation

The investigation will continue today at the scene of a Christmas Eve massacre in Carnation. It appears a long-standing dispute between a woman and her parents prompted the six slayings.

The case, as you can imagine, has attracted national attention. The Seattle Times talked to the mother of the male suspect in the case. Their story is here.

The Seattle P-I also has a complete package on the slayings, including a sidebar from the home of four of the victims and a photo of the male suspect in the back of a patrol car. Their story is here.

Here’s the morning update from King County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart:

The investigation into the Christmas Eve deaths of four adults and two children that occurred at will continue all of today and into tomorrow.

Sheriff’s detectives and the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab will be at the residence in the 1800 block of 346th Ave NE. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will assist with the victims. In addition, personnel from King County Search & Rescue will conduct a sweep of the property looking for additional evidence.

The victims were the homeowners, ages 60 and 61; their daughter and son-in-law, both 32 years old, and the younger couple’s six year-old daughter and three year-old son.

The Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call at 7:58 AM yesterday (December 26th) from a co-worker of one of the victims. The co-worker found the bodies of the deceased after she had gone to the victim’s house to see why she hadn’t shown up for work at the Carnation post office.
