Puyallup police searching for 12-year-old girl

Puyallup police are searching for a 12-year-old girl who was last seen Saturday at her apartment in the 2500 block of South Meridian.


Christina Ann Marie Hagen-Saunders, who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and 125 pounds, was last seen Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Her mother discovered her missing Sunday morning. Investigators believe she crawled out a window sometime during the night. There have been no reported sightings of Hagen-Saunders since.


She has brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. She is believed to be wearing a black sweater, black plants and a black shirt with pink

TPD looking for fraud suspects

Tacoma police have released composite sketches of two men suspected of defrauding a man of money.


This scam isn’t new. Please read the details and be cautious of anyone who approaches you with the promise of big money. I hate to hear about these incidents.


Here’s the information …


On 4-18-07 the victim was approached in the US Post Office parking lot at S.37th and G Streets by a b/m who showed him a stash of money in a satchel. The suspect said he wanted to give the man $70,000 to keep and to give to charities.

Man injured in early morning shooting

A 26-year-old Tacoma-area man was shot in the leg and three others were arrested after a shooting early Wednesday.


The victim called 911 shortly after 4:30 a.m. to report he’d been shot in the area of South 76th Street and Yakima Avenue. He told officers that after getting off work, he went to park and think, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.


The man said a couple of people approached his car and that he drove off. Moments later, he noticed a car following him.


Three rounds were fired from another car at the victim’s car, police reported.

Memorial service set for Kent FF

Kent firefighter Brian Massey, who fell to his death while descending Mount McKinley last week, will be remembered at a memorial service Saturday.


The service will be held 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 25636 140th Ave. S.E., in Kent.


Massey was 27. His body returned to Washington under an honor guard escort Tuesday evening.

Scam Jam set for Thursday in Tacoma

Residents are invited to a free, anti-fraud workshop Thursday at the Tacoma Elks Lodge.


Scam Jam will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 1965 S. Union Ave.


During the event, participants can learn about identity theft, domestic violence and how trusted individuals can exploit you.


State Attorney General Rob McKenna and consumer affairs reporter Herb Weisbaum will be among the featured speakers.


The Better Business Bureau, U.S. Postal Inspector, Department of Labor and Industries, AARP, Washington Credit Union League, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Trade Commission and Adult Protective Services

Can of paint thinner might be behind South Hill house fire

Firefighters doused a house fire late Monday but not before it caused around $150,000 damage, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue reported.


The fire was spotted just before 11 p.m. at the house in the 14300 block of 108th Avenue. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the two-story home, the fire department reported.


The owner was not home at the time but arrived to find the blaze.


No injuries were reported.


The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating but believed the blaze was sparked by an open container of paint

It’s official. It’s a crime to be in a gang in Sunnyside

The City of Sunnyside approved the ordinance Monday that makes membership in a criminal gang a gross misdemeanor.


Is this something Tacoma should consider? Sounds like the ACLU will fight this new law.


Here’s the wire story.


City officials have sent a message to gang members that they’re not welcome in this central Washington town.


The City Council voted unanimously to become the first city in the state to make gang membership a crime.


The city has identified about 50 adult and 200 juvenile gang members living in the city, about 35 miles southeast

TPD looking for attempted kidnapping suspect

Tacoma police have released a composite sketch of a man suspected of trying to abduct a teenage girl from her East Side bus stop last month.


The suspect grabbed the 15-year-old girl’s neck from behind about 6:30 a.m. April 25 as she walking in the area of East Wright and I streets, police reported. He covered her mouth and tried to abduct her. He threatened to kill her.


The girl screamed and fought off her attacker. He ran away, police reported.


The suspect has been described as white, in his early 20s and about 5 feet 10.
