Fire broke out Thursday morning in a four-plex in Yelm.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find Yelm police trying to get people out of the smoke-filled building in the 400 block of Killion Road, according to a news release issued today by Southeast Thurston Fire and EMS.
All the residents got out, although one of them suffered smoke inhalation and had to be taken to the hospital. A Yelm officer was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
A pet kitten died.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
