Crash closes Sixth Avenue

We got an e-mail this morning from a crime fan, who happens to be a copy editor here, about a traffic accident along Sixth Avenue early Saturday.

The roadway was blocked from Chopstix to Sixth and Pine Streets. Here’s what she wrote to us:

Cops were all over the place. A tow truck was loading a truck onto its bed. Another truck looked like it was missing a tire. A Safeway semi was sitting in the middle of the road. Gawkers were lining the streets in front of Jazzbones and Asado. Because the street was blocked off by cops, people who’d parked along the street couldn’t leave.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reports there was a rollover accident on Sixth Avenue near Pine Street about 11:35 p.m. Friday. The accident blocked the roadway. Some fuel also leaked onto the street.

Tacoma police responded and kept cars and people away from the crash scene.

The driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash was injured and taken to St. Joseph Medical Center. Alcohol was suspected, Fulghum said.
