New Marshalls opening in Gig Harbor Sept. 6

Off-price clothing emporium Marshalls plans a grand opening of its new Gig Harbor store Sept. 6.

The store at 4601 Pt. Fosdick Drive NW covers some 26,000 square feet of space. The new store is one of 880 Marshalls operating in 43 states and Puerto Rico.

The grand opening celebration is set for 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new store will add 60 full and part-time jobs to the Gig Harbor employment market.

In celebration of its new Gig Harbor location, Marshalls will contribute to the local community by presenting a $5,000 donation to The Children’s Hope Society

Office Depot opening new outlet in Puyallup this afternoon

Office Depot will this afternoon at 2 o’clock celebrate the opening of a new outlet at 3715 S. Meridian in Puyallup, .

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Office Depot Foundation will make contributions to local nonprofit organizations including Communities In Schools of Puyallup, Helping Hand House and Mel Korum Family YMCA.

In addition, according to an Office Depot release, Shelly Schlumpf, executive director at the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce, will deliver a welcome to dignitaries including Puyallup Mayor Kathy R. Turner; Roel van der Lugt, a representative of Congressman Adam Smith; and State Senator Jim Kastama.

“Recycling” is new Starbucks buzzword

Expect “recycling” to be a big buzzword at Starbucks when it announces second quarter results today.

The Seattle-based coffee retailer will hold its second “Cup Summit” in Boston on Thursday and Friday to talk about reusable cups. Shareholders recently turned down a proposal for more recycling in stores. The shareholder move is expected to allow the company to continue on its mission to make all of its cups be reusable or recyclable by 2015.
