State sets dates and locations for public hearings on proposed marijuana rules

The state Liquor Control Board on Wednesday announced details regarding public hearings that concern the latest iteration of the rules that pertain to Initiative 502, which legalizes marijuana for recreational use.

The four public hearings are a required part of the rulemaking process and provide an opportunity for public testimony on the proposed rules.

Liquor Control Board looking for input on new rules: in person or by mail, e-mail or fax

The Washington State Liquor Control Board is seeking input on the latest set of proposed rules concerning the implementation of Initiative 502. Following a report by consultants, the board on Wednesday filed with the state Code Reviser’s Office. The next step will be a series of public meetings. The dates and times are as follows, with the exact locations to be announced later.

August 6: North Seattle, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
August 7: Olympia, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
August 7, Ellensburg, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
August 8, Spokane, from 6:00 p.m.

Do you grow or smoke (or otherwise consume) marijuana? Here’s your chance to be heard on the subject.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board, which is responsible for implementation of Initiative 502, which concerns the legalization of recreational cannabis, is “facilitating a request from BOTEC Analysis Corporation, our contracted marijuana consultants, seeking survey participants for two separate research projects.”

• Angela Hawken, a professor of public policy at Pepperdine University and a co-author of “Marijuana Legalization: What Everyone Needs to Know” is studying the economics of cannabis production.

You say you want to start a marijuana business? Regulators have some businesslike advice.

The State Liquor Control Board, which also controls the business of recreational marijuana, has issued a list of the “Top 10 Suggestions for Preparing to Apply for a Marijuana License.”

The list aims “to give you a courtesy heads-up on some things you should be considering, preparing or actively doing now if you are interested in applying for a producer, processor or retail license.”

Know first that the board will not be accepting license applications until mid-September. Under the current draft rules, the agency will open a 30-day application window for all license types. “However,” according to a press release,
