Gas prices continue decline in South Sound

At a time of year when gas prices are usually rising, gas prices are falling in the South Sound.

According to The News Tribune’s Gas Deal Finder, the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular in the Tacoma area Wednesday was $3.65, almost five cents less than a week earlier.

That price is down about 18 cents a gallon from the average a month ago.

The price leader in Pierce County was an Arco station at South 56th and Orchard streets where the price was $3.29 a gallon.  Fourteen stations in the county were selling regular gas for under $3.40 a gallon.  Most of those stations were Arco.

South Sound prices remain above the national average, $3.51 a gallon.  A more restricted supply of crude plus high state taxes keep gas prices high here.

If you’re looking for cheap gas, go to South Carolina, where the average price, $3.26 is the country’s lowest.  Hawaii is the highest at $4.34 a gallon.  California is the highest in the continental U.S. with prices averaging $3.94 a gallon.
