Walmart opened a hiring center in Tacoma this week as it prepares to hire some 300 workers for a Central area store now nearing completion and due to open this summer.

Officials at the employment center will be accepting applications at a temporary office located at 15 S. Oregon Ave., Suite 401, near the Tacoma Costco store and the Titus-Will automobile dealership.

The office will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Applicants may also apply for Tacoma positions online at or by visiting any Walmart store, according to a company spokesman.

The company is hiring for both full- and part-time positions, and the majority of Tacoma associates will begin work in June to help prepare the store for its opening.

At approximately 150,000 square feet, the new store at South 23rd Street and Union Avenue will offer a full selection of services including apparel, electronics, a grocery department including a bakery and deli, as well as a pharmacy and outdoor garden center.
