Gig Harbor’s redeveloped Point Fosdick Square gets another major tenant Monday when Applebee’s Grill and Bar opens its 28th Western Washington restaurant in the Safeway-owned shopping center.

The new restaurant is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Monday at 4827 Point Fosdick Drive NW between Safeway and Kohl’sApplebee's-See-You-Tomorrow-Logo-high-res_thumbnail

The complex, which has been a shopping destination in Gig Harbor for decades, is remaking itself in a style compatible with its newer neighbor, Uptown Gig Harbor.

The family-friendly casual dining restaurant will be part of the nation’s largest casual dining franchise chain, Apple American Group.  The Ohio-based franchisee operates 438 Applebee’s including the Gig Harbor location said spokesman Kevin Stoehr.

Apple American Group traces its beginnings to 1998, when the group bought its first eight Applebee’s in Washington.

Applebee’s picked Gig Harbor, said Stoehr, because its family-oriented atmosphere, its busy shops and strategic location.

Apple American will employ more than 60 workers at the restaurant.

Mark Taylor, an assistant manager at Applebee’s Lakewood restaurant, will be the restaurant’s general manager.

Safeway’s real estate arm, Property Development Centers, has rebuilt much of the center.  A new Safeway and a Kohl’s apparel store are now the center’s chief attractions.
