A cross-country educational reform tour visits Tacoma Wednesday.

The event, sponsored by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce,  will host education, government and business leaders “to address the current state of education reform and what’s next for Washington schools,” said the sponsors.

The object of the tour is to highlight businesses’ role in reform and to encourage local leaders to become catalysts for change.

Speakers will include State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn,  Pierce County Skill Center Director Michelle Ledbetter, WorkForce Central CEO Linda Nguyen and Bret Hinton of the Boeing Co.

Cecelia Retelle, senior policy director for the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, will be the keynote speaker.  The institute is a project of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The event begins  at the Hotel Murano with the showing of the film, Won’t Back Down, at 3 p.m.  The keynote address is set for 6 p.m.  The panel discussion will start 15 minutes later.
