If your business has taken significant steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions, the Point Defiance Zoo  & Aquarium and its polar bears want to thank you.

The zoo will award its “Paw of Approval” award to Pierce County businesses that have taken steps to stave off global warming.

That climate change is diminishing the sea ice where polar bears live and hunt.

The award is a joint project by the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the Sustainable Tacoma Commission and Polar Bears International.

Pierce County businesses that have taken steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions are eligible for the award. The deadline for applications is March 22.

Two businesses will receive the award.  Nominations will be judged by the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Green Team and the Sustainable Tacoma Commission.

To be eligible for the award, the business must demonstrate a three-to-five-year record of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Nomination forms are available at zoo website, www.pdza.org.
