New container connections available from Tacoma to Pacific islands

A regional cargo carrier in the southern and western Pacific is launching new container shipping services this week connecting Tacoma and other West Coast ports with the Pacific islands of Majuro, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, Palau and Saipan.

Mariana Express Lines Limited will use Horizon Lines service between Tacoma, Oakland and Los Angeles to connect with its ships in Honolulu. Horizon provides container services from Tacoma to Hawaii and Alaska. Horizon Lines ships call on the APM Terminal on the port’s Sitcum Waterway.

“There is ongoing demand from U.S. shippers for service to these Pacific islands and by partnering with Horizon Lines we can fill the niche to meet this demand with reliable deliveries and a regular schedule,” said Tong Hui Aw, President of Mariana Express Lines.
