Update on sales of those decks of Tacoma playing cards

Local retailers are selling the Tacoma playing cards as fast as they can get them on the shelves. I returned to King’s Books twice to buy my sets, and my colleague C.R. Roberts said the staff at Watermark Gifts on A Street has re-0rdered several times — much to their surprise, given the deck’s $20 price tag.

I checked in with Maija McKnight, one of the co-founders of Tacoma Makes, to find out how sales are going. Here’s some of her email:

The cards are available at 19 different retailers in Tacoma, and we have also been selling them online through our shop.  We distributed just shy of 1,000 decks as part of the Kickstarter rewards, have sold nearly 2,000 decks and have about 3,000 remaining (we ended up getting close to 6,000 decks because the printer had additional overrun which we were able to purchase).

The Pacific NW Shop is by far the most popular location to purchase the decks.

We have no immediate plans for new projects, but we do want to create a second deck with other great Tacoma locations. We’ve heard (and ourselves have) ideas of new projects both that are related to the cards and new products entirely.  We have also had good success with the sale of the original artwork — the artwork was on display at Amocat last month and continues to be for sale on our website.

The potential for growth is exciting, but are also committed to taking on what we can handle to be able to provide great customer service.
